Low-growing shrubs that generally remain around one metre or below, useful at the front of borders, beside paths, in smaller gardens and in selected containers.
Low-growing shrubs build a permanent lower layer through borders, along paths and around taller plants. They can provide evergreen foliage, flowers and ground-level structure without blocking sightlines or overwhelming smaller spaces. For Irish gardens, shrubs that mature around one metre or below are especially useful where growth is vigorous under mild, moist conditions. Good drainage and matching the plant to sun or shade keep compact growth healthier.
