Calluna ‘V Winter Chocolate’ Description

Calluna ‘V Winter Chocolate’ is a low, spreading evergreen heather valued for its constantly changing foliage colour. The small leaves begin yellow in spring, develop green and orange tones through summer and deepen to rich brown and chocolate-red during autumn and winter. Small lavender flowers appear from summer into early autumn and provide nectar for visiting insects. Growing to around 30 to 40cm high and approximately 50cm wide, it suits heather beds, slopes, rockeries and containers. Plant in full sun in acidic soil that drains well, using ericaceous compost in pots. It is exceptionally hardy and well suited to Ireland, but prolonged waterlogging should be avoided. Trim lightly in spring to retain a dense shape.
