Calluna ‘V Claire’ Description

Calluna ‘V Claire’ is a very low-growing form of common heather with bright green evergreen foliage and a spreading habit. White flower buds develop from September into November but remain closed rather than opening fully, helping the display withstand autumn rain and early frost. Mature plants reach only around 10cm high and spread to approximately 30cm, making them useful for rockeries, troughs, container edges and low ground cover. Grow in full sun in acidic, well-drained soil or peat-free ericaceous compost. It is fully hardy in Ireland but dislikes lime and stagnant winter moisture. Lightly trim the old flowering shoots in spring without cutting deeply into bare woody stems.
