× Cupressocyparis leylandii ‘Pyramidalis’ Description

The strongly vertical shape of × Cupressocyparis leylandii ‘Pyramidalis’ makes it a useful screening conifer where height is needed but available planting width is limited. Flattened sprays of dark green foliage develop a blue-green cast as they mature, while small brown cones may appear in winter. It grows quickly and can be maintained as a tall hedge or allowed to form a narrow specimen tree. Plant in full sun or partial shade in any well-drained soil. Although slimmer than standard Leylandii, it can eventually reach a considerable height if left unpruned. Trim regularly and confine cuts to the young green foliage, as old wood does not reliably reshoot.
