Hebe ‘Matty Brown’ Description

Hebe ‘Matty Brown’ forms a dense, rounded evergreen shrub grown primarily for its unusually dark foliage. Small leaves develop bronze, chocolate and purple-brown tones, particularly on young growth and during cooler weather, creating useful contrast beside silver, lime-green or flowering plants. Short flower spikes may appear during summer and attract visiting pollinators. Mature plants generally remain around 50 to 70cm high and wide. Grow in full sun or light partial shade in moderately fertile soil with good drainage. A sunny position encourages the deepest leaf colour. It tolerates coastal air but benefits from shelter against severe frost and cold drying winds. Trim lightly in spring or after flowering to maintain shape, avoiding cuts into old bare wood.
