Hebe ‘Joan Mac’ Description

Hebe ‘Joan Mac’ is a compact evergreen shrub with a naturally rounded habit and glossy foliage that remains strongly flushed with dark purple through the seasons. Upright spikes of mid-pink flowers appear during summer, creating a bright contrast and providing nectar for pollinating insects. Mature plants generally reach around 50cm to 1 metre high and wide. Grow in full sun to maintain the richest foliage colour, using moderately fertile neutral to alkaline soil that remains moist but drains freely. It is reasonably hardy and well suited to sheltered Irish gardens, although severe frost, cold wind and saturated ground should be avoided. Lightly trim after flowering to retain a neat shape. Do not cut hard into old bare stems, as regrowth may be slow.
