Hebe ‘Black Beauty’ Description

Hebe ‘Black Beauty’ forms a dense, bushy evergreen shrub with small dark green leaves heavily flushed with bronze, purple and near-black colouring. Short spikes of vivid purple flowers appear during summer and may continue until early autumn, attracting bees and other pollinating insects. Mature plants generally reach around 60cm to 1 metre high and wide. Grow in full sun for the deepest foliage colour, in moderately fertile soil that drains freely. It tolerates coastal air but benefits from shelter against hard frost and cold easterly wind, particularly in inland Irish gardens. Avoid heavy waterlogged soil. Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact outline, removing only young leafy growth because old bare stems may not regenerate reliably.
