Hydrangea hydrangeoides ‘Roseum’ Description

Hydrangea hydrangeoides ‘Roseum’, formerly widely known as Schizophragma hydrangeoides ‘Roseum’, is a deciduous climbing plant with broad heart-shaped leaves and aerial roots that allow it to cling to suitable surfaces. Flattened summer flower heads carry small fertile flowers surrounded by conspicuous sterile bracts that open pale pink and often deepen as they age. Mature plants can eventually climb 8 to 10 metres, although young specimens may establish slowly. Grow in partial shade or shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. It is hardy and particularly useful on north- and east-facing walls. Tie young stems until they attach and prune only where necessary after flowering to keep growth away from windows and gutters.
