Hydrangea hydrangeoides f. concolor ‘Moonlight’ Description

Hydrangea hydrangeoides f. concolor ‘Moonlight’ is a vigorous deciduous climber formerly known as Schizophragma hydrangeoides ‘Moonlight’. Its heart-shaped leaves have a distinctive silver-grey cast with dark green veins, creating a bright metallic effect from spring into autumn. Flattened flower heads appear in summer, with small fertile flowers accompanied by showy white sterile bracts. Established plants can climb 6 to 10 metres using aerial roots, although young plants may be slow initially. Grow in partial shade or shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. It is hardy and excellent for north- or east-facing walls in Ireland. Tie new plants until they attach and prune only to restrict unwanted spread.
