Azalea japonica ‘Pleasant White’ Description

Azalea japonica ‘Pleasant White’ forms a dwarf evergreen shrub with dense dark green foliage and a rounded habit. Pure white funnel-shaped flowers open in late spring or early summer, with gently ruffled petals and subtle pale green spotting in the throat. Growing to approximately 90cm high and wide, it provides a substantial display without requiring the space of a larger rhododendron. Plant in partial or dappled shade in moist but well-drained, humus-rich acidic soil. It performs reliably in Ireland where the roots remain cool and evenly moist. Shelter the flowers from severe wind and avoid lime in the soil, compost and irrigation water. Pruning is rarely necessary beyond light shaping after flowering.
