Leucanthemum hosmariense

Moroccan Daisy
Award Winner Hardiness H4

Silvery fern-like foliage and white daisies with yellow centres give Leucanthemum hosmariense a distinctive Mediterranean appearance. This compact perennial suits sunny gravel gardens and containers but needs exceptionally good drainage and is less reliable in cold, wet Irish winters.

Leucanthemum hosmariense Description

Leucanthemum hosmariense, Moroccan daisy, is a compact evergreen or semi-evergreen perennial with finely divided silver-grey foliage. White daisy flowers with golden-yellow centres rise above the foliage from spring into summer, creating a bright display in dry sunny planting. Plants generally reach around 20 to 30cm high and spread into a low mound. Grow in full sun in poor to moderately fertile soil with excellent drainage. It tolerates drought well but dislikes cold, saturated roots and is less reliably hardy than conventional Shasta daisies. In Ireland, a gravel garden, raised bed or container in a sheltered position offers the best conditions. Deadhead to extend flowering and protect the crown from excessive winter wet where possible.
