Leptospermum scoparium ‘Red Damask’ Description

Leptospermum scoparium ‘Red Damask’ is an evergreen New Zealand tea tree producing numerous double flowers in rich dark red to crimson shades. Small aromatic leaves cover the slender branches throughout the year, forming a dense, finely textured shrub. The main flowering period is late spring into early summer. Mature plants generally reach around 1.5 to 2 metres high and wide in favourable conditions. Grow in full sun in acidic to neutral soil with excellent drainage. It tolerates coastal air and some summer dryness but dislikes heavy, cold, waterlogged ground. Hardiness is moderate, so a sheltered position is advisable in Ireland, particularly inland. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape and remove any shoots damaged by winter cold.
