Lavandula × intermedia ‘Phenomenal’ Description

Lavandula × intermedia ‘Phenomenal’ is a vigorous lavandin with aromatic silver-grey foliage and numerous long stems carrying violet-purple flower spikes in summer. It forms a broad, well-branched mound and is useful for low hedging, gravel gardens, pollinator planting and cutting. Mature plants generally reach around 60 to 80cm high and wide, with flower stems extending above the foliage. Grow in full sun in neutral to alkaline soil with sharp drainage. Although selected for good tolerance of heat, cold and humidity, it can still suffer if the roots remain saturated through winter. This is particularly relevant on heavy Irish soil. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape, taking care to leave plenty of leafy growth and avoid cutting into old woody stems.
