Lavandula angustifolia ‘Vera’ Description

Lavandula angustifolia ‘Vera’ is a traditional English lavender grown for its strongly aromatic foliage and fragrant purple to blue-purple summer flowers. It forms a rounded woody-based shrub with narrow grey-green leaves and upright flowering stems that can be harvested for drying, scented crafts and culinary use where appropriate. Mature plants generally reach around 50 to 70cm high and wide. Grow in full sun in neutral to alkaline soil with very good drainage. It tolerates drought once established and performs poorly in rich, wet ground. On heavy Irish soil, planting on a slight mound or in a raised bed can reduce winter losses. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain shape, but do not cut hard into old leafless wood.
