Lavandula angustifolia ‘Hidcote’ Description

Lavandula angustifolia ‘Hidcote’ is a classic compact English lavender with narrow silver-grey leaves and richly coloured dark violet-purple flowers on short upright stems in summer. Plants generally form dense rounded mounds around 40 to 60cm high and wide, making them particularly useful for path edging, low hedging, gravel gardens and containers. The fragrant flowers are highly attractive to bees and can be cut for drying. Grow in full sun in neutral to alkaline soil with excellent drainage. It is hardy in Ireland, but heavy saturated winter ground can shorten its life. Trim after flowering to remove the spent stems and lightly shape the foliage. Avoid hard pruning into old leafless wood, which may not reshoot.
