Bay 'Bay Junior'

Aromatic evergreen leaves and naturally compact growth make Laurus nobilis ‘Bay Junior’ particularly useful for patio containers and smaller gardens. The leaves can be used in cooking like ordinary bay, while the reduced size makes this selection easier to manage and protect in winter.

Laurus nobilis ‘Bay Junior’ Description

Laurus nobilis ‘Bay Junior’ is a compact selection of culinary bay with glossy, aromatic evergreen leaves and a naturally smaller habit than typical seed-grown Laurus nobilis. It is well suited to containers, small herb gardens and clipped evergreen structure where a full-sized bay tree would eventually become too large. The leaves can be harvested throughout the year and used fresh or dried for flavouring savoury dishes. Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, freely draining soil or container compost. Water regularly during establishment but avoid permanently saturated roots. In Ireland, container plants should be placed in a sheltered position during severe frost, as exposed roots are less hardy than those in the ground. Trim lightly in late spring or summer to maintain shape.
