Lathyrus latifolius ‘Red Pearl’ Description

Lathyrus latifolius ‘Red Pearl’ is a vigorous herbaceous climber producing winged stems, paired grey-green leaflets and clusters of rich rose-red to deep pink pea-like flowers. Blooming continues through summer, especially when faded flowers are removed. Plants climb using tendrils and can reach around 1.8 to 2.5 metres, so provide a fence, trellis or other support. Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil with reasonable moisture during establishment. It is fully hardy and long lived, dying back to ground level each winter before returning in spring. Unlike annual sweet peas, the flowers have little or no fragrance. The seeds and other parts should not be eaten. Cut old stems down after they die back in autumn.
