Dicentra spectabilis ‘Alba’ Description

Dicentra spectabilis ‘Alba’, now classified as Lamprocapnos spectabilis ‘Alba’, forms a clump of softly divided pale green foliage. Long arching stems carry rows of pendant pure white, heart-shaped flowers during spring and early summer, bringing light to shaded borders and woodland gardens. Growing to around 75 to 90cm, it combines well with ferns, hostas, brunneras and spring bulbs. Plant in partial shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. The cool, damp conditions found in many Irish gardens suit it particularly well. Foliage often yellows and disappears after flowering, especially where summer soil becomes dry. Mark its position and avoid disturbing the dormant crown. The plant is harmful if eaten.
