Lamium maculatum ‘Beacon Silver’

Lamium maculatum ‘Beacon Silver’ Description

Lamium maculatum ‘Beacon Silver’ is a low, spreading perennial with almost entirely silver leaves edged in green. Short upright stems carry whorls of pink to purple flowers from spring into summer, with occasional later blooms possible. Plants generally remain around 15 to 20cm high while spreading 45cm or more as stems root along the ground. It is useful beneath shrubs, along shaded paths and at the front of woodland borders where its pale foliage brightens darker areas. Grow in partial shade or shade in ordinary, well-drained soil, with some moisture giving the lushest growth. It is hardy and easy in Irish gardens. Trim back untidy stems after flowering and restrict spreading shoots where they begin to encroach on smaller neighbouring plants.
