Kerria japonica ‘Golden Guinea’ Description

Kerria japonica ‘Golden Guinea’ is a deciduous shrub with slender green stems and toothed leaves, producing large single golden-yellow flowers in spring. A smaller second flush may occur later in the season. The arching branches create a loose, natural habit that works well in informal borders, woodland edges and shaded corners. Mature plants generally reach around 1.5 to 2 metres high and can spread gradually through suckering shoots. Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile soil that remains reasonably moist but drains freely. Some shade helps prevent the yellow flowers from fading too quickly. It is fully hardy and easy to grow in Irish gardens. After flowering, remove a proportion of the oldest stems at ground level to encourage fresh replacement growth.
