Juniperus × pfitzeriana ‘Old Gold’ Description

Juniperus × pfitzeriana ‘Old Gold’ is a dependable evergreen conifer with spreading branches and soft yellow foliage flushed with warm bronze tones. The colour remains attractive through winter and gives useful contrast beside blue, green and dark conifers. Mature plants form a broad, relatively flat-topped shrub around 1 metre high and 1.5 to 2 metres wide. Grow in full sun in almost any well-drained soil, including poorer sandy or chalky ground. It becomes drought tolerant once established and is very hardy, making it suitable for exposed Irish gardens where winter drainage is good. Avoid wet, compacted soil around the roots. Little pruning is needed, but stray young shoots can be trimmed between late spring and summer without cutting deeply into bare old wood.
