Juniperus squamata ‘Blue Star’ Description

Juniperus squamata ‘Blue Star’ is a dwarf evergreen conifer with densely packed, prickly blue-grey foliage arranged on short radiating shoots. It naturally develops a compact bun-shaped mound and grows slowly, generally reaching around 30 to 50cm high and 60 to 90cm wide over many years. Its restrained size makes it useful in small gardens, rockeries, gravel planting and substantial containers. Grow in full sun or partial shade in almost any well-drained soil, including chalk, loam and sand. It is very hardy and tolerates dry conditions once established. Persistent winter waterlogging should be avoided. Little pruning is needed because the natural habit is neat. Wear gloves when handling, as the short juvenile needles can be sharply pointed.
