Juniperus squamata ‘Blue Carpet’ Description

Juniperus squamata ‘Blue Carpet’ is a spreading evergreen juniper with dense branches covered in short, prickly steel-blue to blue-grey foliage. It develops into a broad, low mound, generally reaching around 30 to 50cm high and spreading 1.5 metres or more with age. Its strong colour and low habit make it useful for covering banks, softening walls and filling large rock or gravel gardens. Grow in full sun or partial shade in almost any well-drained soil, including poor and chalky ground. It is exceptionally hardy and becomes drought tolerant once established. Avoid heavy soil that remains saturated in winter. Routine pruning is not required, although young leafy shoots can be shortened where the plant begins to exceed its allotted space.
