Juniperus procumbens ‘Nana’ Description

Juniperus procumbens ‘Nana’ is a dwarf, mat-forming evergreen conifer with densely packed, sharply pointed grey-green foliage. Branches spread close to the ground and gradually create a layered mound, generally remaining below 30cm high and spreading around 75cm or more over time. Its naturally twisted branches are also popular for bonsai training. Grow in full sun or partial shade in almost any well-drained soil, including chalk, loam, sand and poorer rocky ground. It is very hardy and becomes drought tolerant once established. Avoid persistent winter waterlogging and do not overfeed, as rich soil can encourage soft growth. Routine pruning is unnecessary unless shaping for bonsai or restricting individual young shoots. Wear gloves when handling the prickly foliage.
