Juniperus horizontalis ‘Pancake’ Description

Juniperus horizontalis ‘Pancake’ is one of the lowest-growing creeping junipers, forming layered mats of rich blue-green scale-like foliage that stay close to the soil surface. Mature plants generally remain below 10cm high while spreading around 80cm or more, with stems capable of rooting as they travel. It is ideal for rock gardens, gravel planting, low walls and sunny banks where evergreen coverage is needed without height. Grow in full sun in almost any well-drained soil, including poor, sandy or stony ground. It is exceptionally hardy and drought tolerant once established. Avoid wet, compacted soil, particularly during winter. Little pruning is required, although wandering young shoots can be shortened if they extend beyond the intended area.
