Juniperus communis ‘Repanda’ Description

Juniperus communis ‘Repanda’ is a prostrate evergreen conifer forming a dense, spreading mat of dark green needle-like foliage. The leaves often develop attractive bronze colouring during winter before returning to green in spring. Mature plants generally remain below 50cm high but can spread around 1.5 to 2 metres or more. Grow in full sun or partial shade in any well-drained soil, including dry, sandy or chalky ground. It is exceptionally hardy and withstands exposed and coastal conditions well, making it particularly useful for banks, slopes and low-maintenance ground cover. Once established it is drought tolerant and needs little care. Avoid persistent winter waterlogging. Routine pruning is unnecessary, although young shoots can be shortened if they exceed the intended spread.
