Juniperus communis ‘Green Carpet’ Description

Juniperus communis ‘Green Carpet’ is a low, mat-forming common juniper with short, prickly green needles and a dense creeping habit. It generally remains around 10 to 20cm high while gradually spreading 1.5 metres or more, making it particularly useful as evergreen ground cover on banks, slopes and large rock gardens. Grow in full sun or light partial shade in almost any well-drained soil, including poor, sandy, gravelly and chalky ground. It is exceptionally hardy and well adapted to exposed conditions, including coastal gardens. Once established it tolerates drought and requires very little maintenance. Avoid rich, wet soil, which can encourage weak growth and root problems. Pruning is rarely required, although individual young shoots can be shortened if they spread beyond the intended area.
