Iris ensata ‘Angel Mountain’ is a Japanese water iris grown for its broad, flattened summer flowers and strong upright foliage. The blooms combine pale white to lavender colouring with deeper violet markings and a small yellow signal towards the centre, creating a detailed flower best appreciated near a path or pond. Plants generally reach around 80cm to 1 metre high when in bloom. Grow in full sun or light partial shade in fertile, humus-rich, acidic to neutral soil that remains consistently moist during active growth. It performs well beside ponds and in bog gardens but should not sit in deep stagnant water throughout winter. Avoid applying lime. Remove spent stems after flowering and divide established clumps when they become congested.
