Iris ‘Butter and Sugar’ Description

Iris ‘Butter and Sugar’ is a clump-forming Siberian iris with slender, upright blue-green foliage and elegant flowers held on stems around 70 to 80cm high. The standards are creamy white with a soft yellow sheen, while the falls are flushed a clear butter yellow towards their centres. Flowers appear in early summer above the narrow grassy leaves. Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but is not permanently stagnant. Unlike bearded irises, Siberian types appreciate generous moisture during active growth and suit pond margins, rain gardens and damp perennial borders. They are very hardy and dependable in Ireland. Remove old flower stems after blooming and divide congested clumps in late summer or early autumn.
