Ilex × meserveae ‘Castle Spire’ Description

Ilex × meserveae ‘Castle Spire’ is a female evergreen holly selected for a narrow, strongly upright habit. Glossy dark green, lightly spined leaves form a dense column that works well beside entrances, along boundaries and in restricted spaces where broader hollies would become too large. Small spring flowers can be followed by bright red berries when a compatible male pollinator is present, with ‘Castle Wall’ commonly paired with it. Mature plants generally reach around 2 to 3 metres high while remaining relatively narrow. Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile soil that remains moist but drains freely. It is hardy and responds well to light trimming. Prune in late summer where a tighter formal outline is required.
