Ilex crenata ‘Green Hedger’ Description

Ilex crenata ‘Green Hedger’ is a Japanese holly selected for dense, upright growth and suitability for evergreen hedging. Small glossy green leaves cover the finely branched stems and respond well to regular clipping, allowing a neat formal screen or low boundary to be maintained. Mature height depends strongly on pruning, with established plants capable of forming substantial hedges if allowed to grow. Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, acidic to neutral soil that remains evenly moist but drains freely. Avoid chalky ground and areas that remain saturated through winter. In Ireland, Japanese holly is most dependable where drainage is good and soil pH is not excessively high. Trim in late spring and summer to encourage dense branching and a smooth hedge surface.
