Hypericum × hidcoteense ‘Hidcote’ Description

Hypericum × hidcoteense ‘Hidcote’ is a dense, rounded semi-evergreen shrub with narrow dark green leaves and a particularly long flowering season. Large bowl-shaped golden-yellow flowers, each packed with conspicuous stamens, are produced repeatedly from summer into early autumn. Mature plants generally reach around 1.2 to 1.5 metres high and wide. Grow in full sun or partial shade in almost any moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Once established it tolerates exposure and short dry periods and is a reliable shrub for Irish gardens. In colder winters some foliage may be lost, but fresh growth returns in spring. Prune in early spring by shortening old flowering stems and removing weak or damaged growth to maintain a compact framework and encourage fresh shoots.
