Hydrangea serrata ‘Summer Glow’ Description

Hydrangea serrata ‘Summer Glow’ forms a compact, slightly upright deciduous shrub with finely toothed dark green leaves. Flat lacecap flower heads appear from early summer into late summer, turning pink in neutral soil or blue in acidic conditions. The foliage provides a second season of interest by developing strong red tones in autumn. Mature plants generally reach around 1.25 metres high and about 1 metre wide. Grow in partial shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. It is very hardy and particularly suitable for Ireland’s cool growing conditions. Avoid chalky, dry ground and water container plants regularly. Prune lightly in spring, removing dead stems and faded flowers while retaining healthy older shoots.
