Hydrangea serrata ‘Preziosa’ Description

Hydrangea serrata ‘Preziosa’ is a distinctive deciduous shrub with bronze-flushed young leaves and rounded flower clusters rather than the flatter lacecaps typical of many mountain hydrangeas. The flowers open rose pink in summer and gradually deepen to reddish purple as they age. Foliage develops increasingly strong bronze and red tones before falling in autumn. Mature plants generally reach around 1.2 to 1.5 metres high and wide. Grow in partial shade or gentle sun in fertile soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. It is hardy and dependable in sheltered Irish gardens. Flower colour can vary somewhat with soil conditions, although the changing seasonal tones remain a key feature. Prune lightly in spring, removing dead wood and faded flower heads without hard cutting.
