Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Munchkin’ Description

Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Munchkin’ is a semi-dwarf oakleaf hydrangea with bold lobed foliage and a dense rounded habit. Upright conical panicles open white in early summer and gradually develop soft pink colouring. The green leaves turn rich mahogany, burgundy and purple during autumn before falling to reveal the older stems. Mature plants generally reach around 90cm to 1.2 metres high and spread slightly wider. Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains moist but drains freely. It is hardy and manageable in Irish gardens, although shelter from severe winds helps keep the foliage in good condition. Prune minimally after flowering, removing only dead, damaged or badly placed branches because the flowers are produced on established stems.
