Hydrangea paniculata ‘Bonfire’ forms an upright, bushy deciduous shrub with green serrated foliage and substantial conical flower panicles. The blooms begin in pale cream to white before developing pink and increasingly rich reddish tones as summer moves towards autumn, creating a changing display on the same plant. Mature size is generally around 1.2 to 1.5 metres, depending on pruning and growing conditions. Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile soil that remains moisture-retentive but drains freely. It is fully hardy and well suited to Irish gardens. Like other panicle hydrangeas, it flowers on new wood, so pruning in late winter or early spring will not remove the coming season’s display. Avoid letting newly planted shrubs dry out.
