Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Deutschland’ Description

Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Deutschland’ is a strong-growing deciduous mophead hydrangea producing large rounded flower heads in deep rose-pink shades. In acidic soil the blooms may become mauve or purple-blue. Broad dark green leaves form a substantial rounded shrub, generally reaching around 1.2 to 1.5 metres high and wide. Grow in partial shade or gentle morning sun in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. It is hardy and dependable in sheltered Irish gardens, although late spring frost can damage developing flower buds. Neutral to alkaline soil helps maintain the rich pink colour. Prune lightly in spring by removing old flower heads and dead stems, retaining healthy older wood for the summer display.
