Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Anda Blue’ Description

Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Anda Blue’ is a compact deciduous shrub producing dense, rounded flower heads in clear blue to blue-violet shades. In less acidic soil, the flowers may turn mauve or pink. Plants generally remain around 80cm to 1.2 metres high and wide, making the cultivar useful in smaller gardens and patio containers. Grow in partial shade or gentle morning sun in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. Use ericaceous compost and rainwater where strong blue colouring is important. It is hardy in sheltered Irish gardens but young flower buds may be damaged by late spring frost. Prune lightly in spring by removing old flower heads and dead stems, retaining healthy wood from the previous season.
