Hydrangea anomala subsp. glabra ‘Crûg Coral’ Description

Hydrangea anomala subsp. glabra ‘Crûg Coral’ is a distinctive deciduous climbing hydrangea selected for its colourful young stems and foliage, which can emerge with warm coral, bronze or reddish tones. Flattened heads of small fertile flowers surrounded by larger white sterile florets appear during summer. As the plant matures, aerial roots help it attach to suitable walls and tree trunks. Mature specimens can eventually reach several metres in height, so choose a substantial permanent position. Grow in partial shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains moist but drains freely. It is hardy in Ireland and particularly useful on north- or east-facing walls once established. Young plants can be slow initially. Prune only after flowering where growth needs to be restricted.
