Hosta ‘Albopicta’ Description

Hosta ‘Albopicta’ is a medium-sized herbaceous perennial forming a broad mound of heart-shaped leaves. New foliage opens yellow to creamy chartreuse with contrasting green margins, then gradually becomes greener as summer progresses. Pale lavender funnel-shaped flowers rise above the foliage on upright stems in early to midsummer. Mature clumps generally reach around 45 to 60cm high and 80cm or more across. Grow in partial shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. Some morning light enhances the spring foliage colour, while hot midday sun can scorch the leaves. It is fully hardy and well suited to Ireland’s cool, moist climate. Protect emerging spring shoots from slugs and snails and remove faded leaves after autumn frost.
