Hemerocallis ‘Chicago Apache’ Description

Hemerocallis ‘Chicago Apache’ is a reliable clump-forming daylily producing large, velvety scarlet-red flowers with contrasting yellow-green throats. Each individual bloom lasts for roughly a day, but numerous buds open in succession during midsummer to create a prolonged display. Arching strap-shaped foliage forms a substantial clump around 60 to 75cm high. Grow in full sun or light partial shade in fertile soil that remains reasonably moist but drains freely. Daylilies are fully hardy and dependable in Ireland, although regular moisture during bud development improves flowering. Remove spent flower stalks after the display and clear away old foliage in late winter. Divide congested clumps every four or five years in spring or autumn to maintain vigour.
