Helianthus ‘Lemon Queen’ Description

Helianthus ‘Lemon Queen’ is a tall clump-forming perennial sunflower producing masses of pale lemon-yellow flowers with darker golden centres. The blooms appear on branching stems from late summer into autumn and are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Mature plants generally reach 1.5 to 2 metres high and can form a broad clump, making them best suited to large cottage, prairie or wildlife borders. Grow in full sun in fertile soil that remains reasonably moist but drains freely. It is fully hardy and vigorous in Ireland. Support may be required in exposed positions, particularly on rich ground. Cut old stems to the base after flowering or leave seed heads standing temporarily for wildlife and winter structure. Divide established clumps in spring if spread becomes excessive.
