Helianthemum ‘Golden Queen’ Description

Helianthemum ‘Golden Queen’ forms a low, spreading evergreen shrub with narrow grey-green foliage and numerous rich golden-yellow flowers. The saucer-shaped blooms open successively over several weeks in late spring and early summer, creating a vivid display close to the ground. Mature plants generally remain around 20 to 30cm high while spreading 40 to 60cm. Grow in full sun in poor to moderately fertile soil with excellent drainage, ideally neutral to alkaline. It tolerates drought and coastal exposure once established but dislikes saturated winter ground. Raised beds, slopes and gravel gardens are particularly suitable in wetter parts of Ireland. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain a dense mound and discourage the centre from becoming open, but never cut hard into old bare branches.
