Hebe vernicosa Description

Hebe vernicosa is a compact evergreen shrub with small polished dark green leaves and a naturally dense, rounded outline. Clusters or short spikes of white flowers appear during summer, contrasting clearly with the glossy foliage and providing nectar for visiting insects. Mature plants generally reach around 50cm to 1 metre depending on growing conditions. Grow in full sun or partial shade in moderately fertile soil that remains moist but drains freely. It suits mixed borders, low structural planting and substantial containers. Like many hebes, it benefits from protection against severe frost and cold drying winds in exposed Irish gardens, although established plants are reasonably robust. Lightly trim after flowering to retain shape and remove winter-damaged shoots in spring.
