Geranium himalayense ‘Gravetye’ Description

Geranium himalayense ‘Gravetye’ is a vigorous clump-forming hardy geranium with deeply cut green leaves and broad saucer-shaped flowers. The blooms are rich violet-blue with a pale centre and prominent reddish-purple veins, appearing mainly from late spring into midsummer. Plants generally reach 30 to 45cm high and spread through short underground stems to form useful ground cover. Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile soil that remains moist but drains freely. It is fully hardy and dependable in Ireland, fitting naturally into cottage borders, beneath roses and along informal banks. Cut the foliage and flower stems back after the main display if they become untidy. Fresh leaves often follow, sometimes accompanied by a smaller second flush of flowers.
