Erysimum ‘Winter Passion’ Description

Erysimum ‘Winter Passion’ forms a short-lived evergreen perennial around 50cm high and wide. Branching woody-based stems carry narrow dark green leaves and terminal clusters of scented flowers over an unusually long period from spring into autumn. The blooms open dark red and gradually mature to rich purple, allowing both colours to appear together. Grow it in full sun in poor to moderately fertile, neutral or alkaline soil that drains freely. A sheltered position protects the flowering stems from harsh Irish wind, while avoiding winter waterlogging will improve longevity. Remove fading flowers and lightly shorten the stems after the main display to maintain compact growth. Avoid cutting deeply into old leafless wood, which may not produce fresh shoots.
