Male Fern
I hold the RHS | Award of Garden Merit
Dryopteris filix-mas, the male fern, is a robust native fern forming tall shuttlecocks of fresh green divided fronds that can reach around 1.2m. It has enough presence for substantial woodland planting but remains natural rather than coarse. Exceptionally hardy and adaptable, it grows well in partial or full shade and tolerates drier ground once established.
