Digitalis purpurea, the common foxglove, produces tall spikes of tubular purple-pink flowers, usually marked with darker spots inside, above a rosette of softly hairy leaves. Native and exceptionally hardy, it is particularly effective in woodland edges, informal borders and naturalistic planting, where seedlings can maintain a shifting colony from year to year.
