Dianthus ‘Oscar Purple Star’ Description

Dianthus ‘Oscar Purple Star’ forms a compact, mounded plant approximately 20 to 25cm high and 30 to 35cm wide. Narrow grey-green foliage supports numerous richly coloured purple flowers, each marked with a distinctive lighter star-shaped pattern through the petals. Its early and generous flowering habit makes it particularly useful for patio containers, alpine beds, sunny border fronts and seasonal displays. Plant in full sun in neutral to alkaline soil that drains freely. Water during prolonged dry periods and feed container plants lightly while they are flowering. It is suitable for Irish gardens but dislikes saturated winter ground. Remove faded blooms regularly and lightly trim the plant after flowering to encourage fresh, compact foliage.
