Dianthus caryophyllus ‘I Love You’ Description

Dianthus caryophyllus ‘I Love You’ forms a compact mound of narrow grey-green foliage topped by masses of lightly scented, ruffled double flowers. Each bloom changes colour as it matures, opening in deep pink and gradually softening through rose and blush pink to white. This produces an attractive multicoloured effect across a single plant. Growing to around 40cm high and 20cm wide, it works well in patio pots, sunny border fronts and small cutting gardens. Plant in full sun in fertile, moisture-retentive but freely draining soil or compost. Remove faded flowers regularly to prolong blooming. Good drainage is particularly important during wet Irish winters, and container plants may benefit from shelter during severe frost.
